It’s no secret that hundreds of diets have made their way in front of customers over the past ten years or so. many feel that because there are so many choices, dieting probably isn’t the amazing solution that we have been looking for and the credibikity may have been lost. in some cases dieting can actually cause an increase in weight…Why?
As we eat less food our body thinks it is being starved so it slows down the metabolism and holds on to existing fat for the future. In addition if you eat less you have less energy and your activity level slows down. You even burn calories eating so the less you eat the fewer calories you burn…amazing but true!
Dieting can also cause muscles to shrink and the wrong type of diet can cause the loss of muscle mass, which in turn slows down your metabolism, finally, the variety of low fat, low carb or fat free diets can actually harm the body by restricting the nutrients essential to the body for health and fitness. To function at the highest level we need the correct nutrients and vitamins, including protien, good fats, carbs, vitamins, minerals, water and antioxidants.
When it comes to long term health and weight control we need an active plan which helps us choose appropriate foods, increase our metabolic rate, strengthen our muscles and bones through activity and also to create a sustainable lifestyle. The pln must not include starving ourselves, it should be a simple plan that you can stick to and enjoy!
